Here you see Hindu people putting gifts. I had great luck to catch this moment. Actually I took pictures of the dogs, who were eating rubish at the beach. The men took some food and flowers to the sea, while the dogs ate what they left at the beach. Bali is the only island in Southeast Asia, that is completely Hindu. Every day starts with gifts, which look like little boats made of bambus, given to their gods. So today was Christmas. The day started perfectly: In the morning at seven we went surfing. Because this is why we’ve been to Bali - to improve our surfing skills. We had to learn how to use shorter boards. On Hawaii we surfed with longboards, here we used 7-8 feet Mini-Malibus. What a difference!! But after four days we did the take-off with ease. It’s so much fun, I guess I’m addicted for now.
Kuta is known for it’s wide beach, millions of shops and people from all over the world, having fun day and night. Unfortunately it’s as well known for it’s bomb attacks in 2002. We visited the monument, which stands where the nightclub might has been and more than threehundered people died. We sat at the beach and watched the crowds.
There was this old man with a basket ball in his hands I talked to. In Hong Kong it’s hard to communicate - usually Cantonese is spoken -, only a few people speak Chinese. Then some speak English, whatever, you have to find out yourself. The man spoke Chinese and told us about the foodstreet, where he had a restaurant. We didn’t eat there, but strolled around the narrow streets. We loved it! Hong Kong has a totally different charme, compared to Shanghai, which anyway isn’t comparable with any other place in the world.
